Ever been pregnant? Yes or no you will know that weight gain is unavoidable. Add in an injury and you are really struggling. This was Amy Champion.
But after hard work, dieting and even more injuries, she has managed to turn it all round!
Here is Amy’s story.
What is your fitness background?
When I was younger I used to play netball for a school team and train kickboxing at the local gym. Whilst at university I was a cheerleader for my varsity team.
Why did you decide to transform your body?
I put on a lot of weight due to tearing my cartilage in my knee in kickboxing. My weight gain crept up when I fell pregnant. I was 23 stone at my heaviest and looking in the mirror was horrible. I refused to have pictures taken of myself and would hate going clothes shopping. It was after my sister showing me a photo of myself that made me really think I need to get rid of this weight.
What was your training like?
My training started with light weights and predominantly cardio, as the weight began to drop I hit the weights more. I love the way figure models look and explained this to my personal trainer who put me on a weight based fitness plan. I now do an hour of weights and then an hour of cardio at least 7 times a week.
What was your diet like?
I follow a strict no gluten, low carb, high protein diet. It was not easy to begin with and I took a while to adjust to it.
I kept a food diary that my trainer would read this every week, and tell me what to do to improve. It’s now my way of life, so I no longer keep the diary.
What supplements did you use?
How has your lifestyle changed?
I have a lot more energy throughout the day and can do more with my little girl. I also look forward to my training sessions, and really enjoy pushing myself hard every time.
What challenges did you face?
I have torn the cartilage in my knee again but this is not stopping me. I have kept a strict diet and training regime and losing weight and building strength has helped my situation.
I also used to be one of the biggest girls in the gym. Whilst I found it extremely depressing, it did not stop me.
How do you feel about your transformation?
I love my transformation and enjoy my new body. I do understand I have a long way to go to get into the same shape as other figure models, but I am on the right track.
What are your plans for the future?
My plan for the future is to enter an amateur competition next year and hopefully gain a sponsorship. I would also love to be able to get my pro-card and enter professional competitions.
