A review of Matrix Nutrition’s High Protein Flapjacks

When we get asked “is this product any good?” we are rarely going to say “Nah mate, hunk of rubbish!” are we? And as much as we harp on about how we use Feefo, a 100% independent review system, people still want more info!

And rightly so. Why would you want to part with your hard earned (or not hard earned, we’re not judgemental) cash on something you’re not 100% sure on. So, in a bid to further show how honest we are, we sent our good friend Liam Browne a box of Matrix Nutrition High Protein Flapjacks and asked him to do a 100% honest review.

So he did.

Supplement Centre sent a full box of these High Protein Flapjack (24) so I was able to try them at different times of the day and for varying reasons to give a better review. I had the Double Chocolate Deluxe flavour so this review is based on that, there are others to try. (Cookies and Cream, and Caramel Crunch).

As a meal replacement or snack bar I found these to be some of the best flapjacks I have had. A good nutritional split, good taste and very filling if you are on the go. I often had these in between teaching lessons at school which helped keep my energy up and hunger/cravings at bay.
As a pre workout meal I found them useful but I did need to time when I was having them. If I had them just before I started they sat quite heavy which made the warm ups and the first part of the workout uncomfortable. However if you time them like any pre workout meal/supplement and give yourself half an hour to digest before starting then you are good to go.

The only time I found this product to be an issue came at my first Crossfit competition. After the first workout I was dead on my feet and needed to recover quickly before the next one. I had my Matrix BCAA and one of these flapjacks but found it very dry and difficult to eat. Obviously I am putting this down to my physical state at the end of the workout but it should be noted that these are not suitable in between workouts or directly after due to the texture.

Overall I would definitely buy this product again. Good taste, great nutritional split and awesome value for money (£17.99 for 24, that’s 75p per bar!). Definitely on to a winner from Matrix Nutrition.
