Could this give you a boost?

With hormone boosting supplements becoming increasingly popular, what should you choose and why?

In the modern era of bodybuilding, we are spoilt for choice when choosing our supplementation. Time release protein blends, pre-workout energy boosters, fat burners, immune support – the list is almost endless, which makes choosing the right supplement for yourself all the more difficult. So, we’ve chosen two of our favourite testosterone boosters and examined the benefits of each – but first, what exactly is a testosterone booster?

Testosterone Boosters

As the name would imply, a testosterone booster increases the levels of the male sex hormone testosterone in your body. Testosterone is the key hormone involved in muscle growth, and benefits of additional testosterone include:

• Increased muscle mass
• Increased strength
• Increased libido
• Increased endurance

Many gym goers are realising the potential for growth that testosterone boosters offer, allowing greater muscle gains in shorter periods of time – with enhanced recovery and increased protein synthesis for quickly repairing after a gym session.

But with so many supplements on the market, which should you choose?

Tribulus is a popular testosterone booster that is found in the plant Tribulus Terrestris. Widely available over the counter, it has received backing from Olympic teams and professional body builders. It acts by increasing the levels of Luteinizing Hormone in the blood, which in turn elevates testosterone levels and provides the edge many competitive athletes need to push further than would otherwise be possible.

Tribulus is a very popular testosterone booster, in fact some would call it terrific tribulus terrestris.

D-Aspartic Acid

D-Aspartic Acid is a relatively new testosterone booster that has been popularised by many online supplement retailers and bodybuilding magazines. It too acts on the levels of Luteinizing Hormone in the blood, but has been shown to increase testosterone levels in users by almost 50% in as little as 3 weeks. Obviously, this is a supplement that can be of huge benefit to anyone seeking fast muscle growth, and as such has become a huge hit amongst trainers.

DDA is an amino acid – one of the key building blocks that make up our body. It acts by signalling the testes and pituitary gland to become more active, increasing testosterone production.

As previously discussed, the benefits of this are huge. Muscle fibres are quickly repaired at high testosterone levels, increasing mass gain dramatically. Fat loss is also accelerated, as the body becomes more efficient at burning fat cells for energy – a huge reason why DAA is becoming so popular, lose fat and gain muscle at the same time.

With the ever increasing popularity of testosterone boosters, more and more users are seeing the benefits. Although D-Aspartic Ac id has been shown to provide exceptional increases in testosterone levels, it is still relatively new in the bodybuilding world, and effects of long term use are currently undocumented.

Tribulus on the other hand, whilst not as potent as DAA, has a proven track record of being an incredibly safe, natural testosterone booster, being used by Olympic athletes and bodybuilders for over 40 years, and will likely remain a very popular choice amongst aspiring gym goers for the foreseeable future.
